Resolving acute pain

If you’re suffering from acute pain, it can be puzzling as to what to do with the problem.  Fortunately, there are some steps you can do at home to calm the irritation.

o One of the most common tips is to put ice on the area.
o Try relieving the area to not increase annoyance, easy movement is, however, still appropriate.
o It will reduce muscle spasms and irrigation of wastes. Additionally, it’s better with movement over short periods and repeated. It is also important with varied movements.
o Drink more water than usual and avoid diuretic liquids such as coffee, tea and alcohol. This helps the evolution of stroke drugs.
o It is important to consult with someone who can help with the issue and if the pain becomes unbearable then painkillers can help.
o Below we have listed the most common recommended action into sections on the basis of the area you have hurt.

Neck

o Ice the area for 20 min, pause for 20 min, and then ice again for 20 min. Ensure the ice pack is wrapped in a thin kitchen towel.
o Repeat this process about 3 times during the day, when required.
o Keep your neck moving within the pain threshold.
o Find a good position at work or home, avoid stressful positions, and vary the movements.
o Additionally, hold tech devices at eye level.
o Take pain medication if the pain becomes unbearable.

Shoulder

o Ice the area for 20 min, pause for 20 min and then ice again for 20 min. Ensure the ice pack is wrapped in a thin kitchen towel. Repeat this process about 3 times during the day, when required.
o Avoid large movements of the shoulder. Make small movements to maintain muscle tension levels.
o In acute trauma, it may be okay to contact for investigation and possibly referring to radiology.
o Take pain medication if the pain becomes unbearable.
o If the shoulder is so bad that no movement is possible, use a sling to relieve and lessen the pain.

Lumbar

o Ice the area for 20 min, pause for 30 min and then ice again for 20 min. Ensure the ice pack is wrapped in a thin kitchen towel. Repeat this process about 3 times during the day, when required.
o Take short trips of 5 x 10 min.
o Do not sit over longer periods. Alternate positions from lying down, standing and sitting.
o Avoid forward leaning and rotation. It is not recommended to cycle, vacuum, unload the dishwasher etc. Keep sway in the lumbar to reduce the risk of further irritation.
o Take pain medication if the pain becomes unbearable.

Knee and ankle

o Ice the area for 20 min, pause for 20 min and then ice again for 20 min. Ensure the ice pack is wrapped in a thin kitchen towel. Repeat this process about 3 times during the day, when required.
o Apply compression bandage and hold the leg high.
o Avoid too much emphasis on the area when it is painful, but try to put emphasis on the area as soon as you know that it is possible.
o Use crutches if necessary.
